Nothing is more important than the safety of our youth. That is why Scouting America has Safeguarding Youth Training. This replaces youth protection training going forward. This ensures that every scouter has the latest information and that this critical training is good for the entire scouting year. No adult will be allowed to recharter or serve as a leader unless they comply with this procedure.

Completing Safeguarding Youth Training, isn’t merely a good idea.
It’s a requirement.
As a registered Scouting volunteer, you must take the approximately 90-minute Safeguarding Youth Training, hereafter known as SYT, once and then can take a 15 minute refresher followed by a test every year after that.
If a new volunteer joins your pack, troop, ship, post, or crew, they must complete SYT before they can register. Our Council has a policy to suspend membership of anyone who is past the expiration of SYT.
Here’s what we recommend: Take a moment, right now, to check your SYT status. This way, you’ll save yourself from potential roadblocks down the road.
Here’s what you need to know:
Go to My.Scouting.org.
Log in or create an account.
Click the “Safeguarding Youth” logo on the right of the screen. (There’s a separate button to take the course in Spanish.)
You’ll see a course called “Safeguarding Youth Training.” Click "Take the Course" or "Enroll in the Course".
Follow the prompts onscreen as you proceed through the several lessons. After completing them all, you’ll be asked to take the SYT Certification Test, which you must pass with a grade of 80% or higher.
Log in to My.Scouting.org.
Click “Menu” at the top left.
Select “My Training.”
At the top of the page, you will see a “My Safeguarding Youth Training” section with your “SYT Status.”
If your status is active, thank you! Scouting America appreciates your efforts to help keep Scouts safe. On this screen, look for your training expiration date and make a note of it. You might consider adding a calendar alert on your phone to retake the training a week or two (or more) before that deadline.
If your status is not active, please follow the instructions to retake the course.
Log in to My.Scouting.org.
Click “Menu” at the top left.
Click “My Training.”
Look for the section labeled “My Safeguarding Youth Training.”
Next to “Retake Course,” look for the small blue printer icon. Click that.
Your browser will open a PDF that you can print or save to your computer.
Many common questions can be answered in the BSA’s Learning Library.
If you can’t find what you’re looking for there or have youth protection questions please contact the Council's Vice President of Safeguarding Youth at ypt@fareastcouncil.org.
